Medieval Town On A Budget
Our summer is fast approaching, with the cold and dark mornings, the short days fading out and the lighter nights coming forward I think we may have had our fill of cold winter times this year. With the weather being the coldest it has ever been for nearly thirty years we should hopefully have a lovely summer to compensate for this. We can only hope. What have we got to look forward to this year? We have the World Cup approaching in June and the Ryder Cup being held in Wales these are but a few to mention of the exciting events coming up in the UK this year, but do we have any holiday plans to look forward to for the summer? It is a hard time for most of us to come up with the funds for a luxury such as a holiday but I am looking into the option of travelling to the wonderful island of Rhodes this summer and weighing up the best points, and the costs of travelling to the Greek island.
With Rhodes being a place for all traveller including couples, families and groups of friends there is a resort to meet every type of holiday maker. The beautiful island provides over three hundred days of sunshine every year and has some of Greece’s most breathtaking beaches with many of them holding the prestigious Blue Flag award. Rhodes is the busiest island of all the Greek islands and has the most annual visitors every year hence this one of the best choices of islands for people to take their summer holidays.
If you are a keen water sport enthusiast, the west coast of Rhodes is home to some of the best wind surfing and other wind sports in Europe. There is also plenty of history on the island and many people will enjoy discovering the history and culture with pre arranged trips and also the option to experience it independently. One of the best places on the island is the old Rhodes Town. Rhodes town is one of the oldest towns on the island offering a vast variety of history from the architecture to the many museums on offer to visit. One of the most popular attractions of Rhodes town id the Old Clock Tower with its fantastic history, fabulous stonework and also the views you can encounter from the top should you dare to climb the narrow and steep ladders up to the top.
Should you do this little trip to the top you will discover the most jaw dropping views of this old medieval town. It is approximately four Euros for the pleasure and includes a well deserved drink when you come back down. This is only one of the attractions you will encounter when you visit Rhodes Town, there is many other places of interest including the massive town walls where the town sits inside of them, they are an amazing spectacle.
Should shopping be a downfall for you then you will have many downfalls when you visit Rhodes Town. There are many shops here including the famous, Bazaar Street where you will find all types of shops, gift shops and very, very nice jewellery shops. There will be a gift for every one here. Cafes, bars and restaurants are everywhere you look, but be careful as the prices vary massively so have a little look around before stopping for refreshments.
One of the popular excursions of Rhodes in general is a ferry trip to the resort of Marmaris, Turkey. Again, this is going to be a haven for shoppers with Marmaris having a wide variety of shops, bazaars and markets for you to stroll through, this really is worth a visit if you get the chance and you get to visit and experience another country which in my opinion is an added bonus. In general I would describe Rhodes Town as relaxing with great entertainment and a fabulous cultural exploration.
You can get cheap deals to Rhodes if you look in the right places and consider your dates for the holiday. Obviously school holidays are very expensive so try to avoid these times. Holidays to Rhodes are very inspiring if you are going for the history whereas if you are just travelling for a quick break and a cheap getaway this is also catered for. So if you budget will stretch this year to take a well deserved holiday I can definitely recommend Rhodes Island in Greece.
