water sport girls

I want to join my high school swim or water polo team….?

Ok, so I’ll be starting freshman year in fall. In my district, Girls Water Polo is a winter sport, and Girls Swimming is a spring sport. So, I was just wondering, how should I prepare? What types of exercises should I do? How long should I be able to swim/tread water? I can tread water for over and hour. Will there be tryouts or just sign ups for the frosh team? When will tryouts/signups be for these teams based on the seasons? Any help you can give me?!
oh yah I do have a pool in my backyard. what is the uniform for water polo?

Go to the nearest lap pool and start swimming as much as you can. For water polo, you need freestyle the most. Make sure you can swim at least a 200 head down without stopping (8 laps) and at least a 50 head up (2 laps.) You also need to develop a lot of leg and core strength for water polo, learn how to “eggbeater” which is a water tredding technique that gives you the most consistent power. Look on youtube for some how to videos on water polo exercises. As for sign ups and such, my school usually starts practice a couple weeks before the season starts so I would look for sign ups a month before the beginning of the season. Have fun!
