Is water polo THE most intense sport ever?
Heads up guys, give me logical answers here. I’ll start off.
Yes, it is the most physically taxing sport, EVER. Brutal, absolutely brutal. Practices? Eggbeater sets that last up to 30 mintues without rest; treading water for 40 minutes; thinking about plays every second of the game; attacking other players. Physically, emotionally taxing, and teamwork/ communication really does make a difference.
Oh boy, I wish I did not quit the game in high school.
YES! I loved playing, and now I love watching it. Anytime I see a game (live or televised) I can’t shut up. I scream out “DRIVE,” “WING OUT,” or “SHOT CLOCK” the whole time. I’ve also developed a better appreciation and understanding of basketball and hockey because they share similar set-ups and plays as water polo. I’ve played all kinds competitive athletics- softball, swimming, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, – and none of them compare to the awesome brutality that is a water polo game. I’ve ended up with black eyes, torn-off suits, bruises, and scratches like with no other game. And I loved every minute. On the other hand, I’ve never hated any practices so much as I have polo practice! You think drivers, hole sets, and guards have rough leg work outs? Try being a goalie and doing it all with a 10 to 15 lb. weight belt!
