Anyway to check the cpu for past mileage on a 02 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.0L ES?

Looking to buy a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.0L ES Old odometer burnt out and salesguy tells me that he bought the car from a recent dealer auction for lower than what he’s asking for. He’s asking for $5600. Says the one in the car is from a recent totalled Montero, new Odometer runs and reads 11k. I questioned as to whether or not we can check the cpu for the mileage, he said its internal in the dash – dunno whether he didnt do it , was trying to push me away, or its fact that it really doesnt need to be done. His company(?) also offers different warranties, highest one is an additional $600, 100K bumper-to-bumper. His shop was pretty big and had quite a selection of nice cars including Range Rovers and Benz’s. Also said to be better safe than sorry, he replaced timing belt/alternator/water pump Asked if i could bring to another mechanic, he said yes Is this a okay buy? As not to divert away from original quesiton, is there any way to check the cpu for old mileage

It is possible to check for past milage on a car in that age group.

Your going to have to locate your ECU unit (black console usually found under passengers seat) once you have located this box then take it to a registered Mitsubishi dealer and say that you want a diagnostic check done on the previous miles.

It will cost around $20 to be done and it will show the previous miles done of the old odo.
