How do you like float in water?

Obviously Im not a swimmer seeing I cant even explain this question. Well in school Im in my swimming unit for gym and I need to learn how to swim. First is something about threading water. How do I do that at like 10 feet? Im pretty much a athlete who can handle any sport with a ball but any sport that involves water I suck at.
I dont mean doing the backfloat. I mean like threading or whatever its called.

Its called treading. What you do is you kick your legs in some way. Not hard just enough to keep you up. You can move your legs like you riding a bicycle, you could also push one foot back while the other one goes forward and then switch them back again.

Both keep you afloat but i would recomend the bicycle on.Now with your hand just kind of glide them back and forth near the surface of the water. I

Don’t wear yourself out by kickcing hard. IT can be a relaxed steady motion. Its not too hard. GOOD LUCK
