How would the difference in the heating and cooling rates of land and water surfaces affect atmospheric…?
How would the difference in the heating and cooling rates of land and water surfaces affect atmospheric conditions above them? In other words…..how would the rates affect the atmosphere?
Help me, please!!
The continents heat and cool very rapidly, but large variations per day. For instance, the Sahara desert can reach 136° Fahrenheit at the height of day, and can plummet to as low as only 5° Fahrenheit!!! Obviously, most of the globe doesn’t heat and cool with this drastic sway, but it just illustrates how continents can flux.
On the other hand, water’s very high specific heat capacity means that day-to-day swings are minimal. This clearly has influence on vertical convection, being more intense, but more chaotic over continents, but massive and fairly continuous over the oceans.
