water charges

water charges in jamaica?

I need information on how water charges (if any) u have to pay in jamaica.
Do u get a bill? or do u pay a person that comes around and fills the tank if you have one? if the water is piped into the home how do they know how much has been used and how and when do you get billed.? and if you cant afford to pay will they turn it off? Thanks in advance.

I guess it all depends on where u live some people get a bill each month–water meter is read and some rely on the rain to fill their tanks etc.. when I lived in st. elizabeth and kingston i got a bill.

Oh and about them shutting it off… i have a cousin who lives in Ensom acres… and 1 time she paid her bill ON TIME and the NEXT DAY the water company was outside her house ready to shut off her water!

she had to run outside and show the man that her bill was PAID. he then called nwc and they confirmed that the bill was paid.

That’s just an example of the crooked behavior in JA. Now if my cousin wasn’t home the guy would’ve shut off her water and she would have to PAY to have them come back and cut it back on!
