Did the survivors of the Titanic sinking get a refund?

They never made it to New York. So they should have, right?
And did they have to pay the rescue ships for a ride home?
I know it was a tough situation, but I was wondering because some of them might have needed the money back. It was probably expensive to go and who would have just sat around oh no big deal it’s just pocket change? So, I’m just curious as to how the situation was handled.

No. The White Star Line were a bunch of tight-fisted b*stards.

Not only would they not compensate the families of the orchestra who drowned on the Titanic – the guys everyone remembers playing ‘Abide with Me’ as the ship went down – but they actually wanted them to repay five shillings and four-pence to cover the loss of the uniforms.
