You need to be able to swim, but you don’t have to be able to swim like a professional! It depends mostly on what qualification that you require. If it’s only for a DSD (Discover Scuba Diving / Try-Dive), as long as you have a basic ability, you’ll be fine. If you want a qualification, you’ll need to be able to prove that you can swim, but again, technique isn’t important.
