In sailboat racing, what is “Banging a corner”?

I have heard this term before but don’t know its meaning. I think it has to do with when you round a mark.

Banging a corner is where you only tack once up the whole beat.

So when you go off a start line and keep going untill you reach the far layline, then tack, you have banged a corner because you have left it to chance and not tacked on any shifts ect.
