A friend says her dad wons powerboat races during the 70s. How can I find out or if she lied?.?

My friend said her dad won a ton of trophies for powerboat racing in the 1I970′s I think she is lying, How can I find the names of powerboat races and crew from the 1960′s and 70′s? She’s always bragging about it but has no proof and there are no photos or trophies at her house. I don’t want to embarrass her or her parents. Maybe she is telling the truth, but I have nothing to prove it.
