Where is the Cheapest Padi Open Water Course?

I’m based in the UK but Ideally would like to do it abroad, I have heard Egypt is cheap – any recommendations and / or links would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did my basic on the Great Barrier Reef, followed by a bit in Fiji and Melbourne and then my Advanced in Sharm el Sheik.

In Sharm we went with Camel. There were 4 main schools there that seemed to attract the British divers, but we like Camel as their lounge gave you somewhere to escape away from the hussle and bussle of the main street. I would certainly reccomend them. It is the one thing that would entice me back again. For a holiday I would not naturally chose Egypt, but for a close, cheap diving holiday I think you are on the right lines.

There was a smaller town called Dahab just round the coast that we did a day trip to, but I would not have gone there by choice as the diving was so much better where we were. It might however reduce your costs.

In Sharm I foiund that the star rating of the hotel did not necessarily indicate what the guests thought of the quality. Stars indicated number of swimming pools/ facilities rather than better levels of service. If trying to keep costs down, and going out on boats all day, I wouldn’t bother to upgrade.
