Pleasure craft : Enjoy the most for recreational purposes

A pleasure craft is a boat used for personal, family, and sometimes sportsmanlike recreation. Typically such watercraft are motorized and are used for holidays, for example on a river, lake, canal or waterway. Pleasure craft are normally kept at a marina. They may include accommodation for use while moored to the bank.

Many narrow boats were converted into pleasure craft from their previous use for cargo transport on canals, and today the same hull style is commonly used for new pleasure craft using the canal system.

A pleasure craft will include a motor and full steering controls that make it possible to use the craft on lakes, rivers, and in canals. The pleasure craft may also be used as a temporary or permanent residence for the owner, and often is equipped with amenities that are not unlike those that are found in a home, albeit on a smaller scale.

A pleasure craft is understood to be a small to moderate size boat, with the length usually under eighty feet. A pleasure boat of  size provides sufficient room for the owner to create comfortable spaces that can be enjoyed for the weekend or a longer period of time. A pleasure craft will have a sleeping bunker, some type of small kitchen area, and enough room for the owner to enjoy fishing and sunning in comfort.

The pleasure craft is also usually small enough to be docked at a marina for extended periods of time. Requiring only a moderate amount of space, just about any marina can accommodate a pleasure craft, such as a yacht. Monthly fees for housing a pleasure craft are often reasonable, especially if the owner chooses to make the craft his or her permanent residence.

A pleasure craft used as :

  • Pleasure craft used to transport person or goods as a favourable for commercial purpose.
  • Pleasure craft used as an essential means of transportation for one person or more.
  • Pleasure craft  provided with a rented cottage.
  • Pleasure craft  used for subsistence activities, e.g. fishing and hunting.
  • Safety craft operated by many club with skipper and “spotter”, e.g. club launch and standby vessels for races.
  • Privately-owned and used recreational craft.
  • Privately-owned club boat used to entertain owner’s guests.
  • Outboard motorboat used exclusively for pleasure at a cottage.
  • Cabin cruiser, occasionally rented out by owner to third parties for them to use for weekend or weeks to cruise on their own.
  • Pontoon houseboat rented out by owner for cruising/camping vacations.
  • Sailboat, bareboat chartered/rented for a period of time.
  • Any vessel converted to private/personal use without commercial component.
  • U-drive rentals that are operated/navigated by individuals renting the vessels.

As long as the pleasure craft has a solid motor, a sturdy frame, and is in generally good working order, the boat is likely to provide an excellent hideaway for weekends and summer vacations.
