If you’re a skateboarder looking for a new thing to try, or a longboard surfer looking to do something fun in the absence of ocean waves, tarp surfing is the game for you. It lets you enjoy the feeling of riding the tube—a longboard surfing feature—with your skateboard, a helper and some weights.

Tarp surfing gives young kids as well as seasoned professionals opportunity to skate in a unique way. It brings together elements of both skateboarding and surfing into a simulation of a barrel wave which a skateboarder rides instead of a surfer. By combining the two sports, tarp surfing also provides an opportunity to players of both sports to enjoy the game.

The setup is simple. Find a wide area to place the blue tarp, then weight down two opposite corners of the tarp. Stand near one of the two corners facing the top corner and ask your buddy to raise the tarp with arm extending overhead. As your partner runs towards the opposite corner, jump on your skates and get barreled. Remember to leave 5 to 10 feet of space on the sides for safety.
