How Bad Are Sports Actually For The Environment?

Im doing a project (in french, but i can easily translate answers to french) about sports which are bad for the environment.
Ive found the 7 sports which are worst for the environment.
1. Parachuting
2. Soccer
3. Car racing
4. Hunting
5. Skiing/Snowboarding
6. Drag Boat Racing
7. Aviation

Most of these sports are not that bad for the environment if done correctly.

I think your biggest culprits would have to be those that emit lots of air pollutants – car racing, drag boat racing, and aviation. The fuels that they use on their vehicles emit many air pollutants that are damaging to human health, as well as the environment. I guess the way to improve them would be to use alternative, clean fuel sources, or to just only participate in those sports in moderation.

Hunting/fishing could also be a big one, but only if overdone. There are many treaties and laws in place to protect endangered animals from being hunted and set limits on how much of one particular animal someone can hunt. So long as those regulations are followed, there usually isn’t a problem. But if those regulations are overstepped, they can destroy local populations of animals, and set a ripple effect through the local ecosystem. So, to make hunting/fishing better for the environment, I guess the answer would be simple: Don’t overdo it.

I can’t really see soccer or skiing/snowboarding as being sports that are particularly bad for the environment. The only problem I could foresee would be if forests/local ecosystems were destroyed to make soccer fields or skiing/snowboarding areas. If forests especially are destroyed during the creation of these recreation areas, it not only destroys the homes of local animal life, but there are then less trees that take dangerous pollutants out of the air. As for soccer, I suppose it could be bad for the environment if lots of electricity is used to power a soccer stadium indoors, but besides that, I don’t see any problem with it. Basically, neither of those sports are that bad for the environment. The only way to make them better for the environment would be to simply be mindful of where soccer fields / ski resorts are built, so that they have as little impact on the local ecosystem as possible.

Parachuting could only be bad because of number seven, aviation. Aviation uses lots of fuel, and when used, planes emit lots of air pollutants. Again, the way to possibly improve this would be to find and use clean burning fuels in planes, and to only participate in the sport in moderation, to reduce the emissions you are responsible for.

As for the other sports, it is very hard to find statistics on them, as it’s very hard to estimate how many animals are effected by ecosystem destruction by some of these sports, the exactly amount of air pollutants emitted during these sports, etc.
