can i get funding to start a new career as a diving instructor?

It’s quite possible and it’s going to depend on what social programs are available where you live. Here , in Canada there are a number of social assistance programs that offer money to switch careers. Everything from student loans from the provinces to full grants from the federal government under the un employment insurance act. I for one, used an Ontario student loan for my commercial diver training.

Edit: Scubapro does have a point about doing grunt work in exchange for certs. But I’d still look into any government assistance in your area. Also, by going that route, the training facility will have to meet your funding program’s requirements. This will help you obtain not only better training, but probably some job placement help as well. I agree with scubapro, in that divers are a dime a dozen, lining up to work at resorts.
