How to go about opening a dive shop?
I am currently working my way up to a dive instructor and once i finish i would like to open a shop with everything to do with water sports.. like diving, surfing, kiteboarding, and inshore/offshore tackle.. i know the location where i would do it and im sure it would be profitable but i just have no idea how to get started..
You need to check with your local zoning and business permits offices to see what’s involved with locating and licensing a business. You will probably need to secure financing through loans and to get loans you’ll need a business plan. A business plan will help you succeed as well. You need to contact the manufactures of the various merchandise you want to sell and make sure you can arrange to sell their products and get an inventory. You’ll need money for rent, utilities, and advertisements, including in the phone book. Have some kind of Grand Opening with door prizes, coffee, cookies, etc, and if at all possible equipment demonstrations. You’ll need to buy equipment for rental. You’ll need staff that is knowledgeable in local diving spots as well as the equipment. I’m sure you understand about having certified instructors to teach classes.
