Plus 3 Racing Mark Buoy System

Boat Racing should not be a function of eyesight. What’s the fun of racing if you can’t see the marks to know if you are gaining or losing? But the poor race committee has limited space on the committee boat, limited club storage facilities, and limited horsepower on the committee boat to deploy and retrieve those marks. So what is the answer?

Well, what if the marks were taller to avoid being obscured by waves and the curvature of the earth? If the marks had more surface area? If marks had less volume so that they can fit on the committee boat easily and be stored in a minimum of space when not in use. And what if the marks have less wetted surface area to get slimy and need less anchor weight to hold them fast. Then you would have the racing mark buoy answer.

The answer is the Plus 3 Racing Mark Buoy System. With a 6 ft. tall mast and a 60-in. wide viewing surface of 1070 sq. in. These marks nestle together to occupy less than 150 cu. Inches. That’s less than three 18 in sprees that only have an out of water height of 14 in. and a viewing surface of inch of 170 sq. in.

We are talking 5 times the viewing surface and 5 times the height of an 18-in. sphere buoy. These buoys are 3 times the viewing surface and 3 times the height of a 24-in. sphere buoy as well.

Sure you could deploy a 60-in. triangle buoy or a 36-in. sphere buoy to come close to the visibility offered by the Plus 3 racing mark buoy system. But where are you going to keep them on the deck, and in storage. What weight anchor system is going to keep them in place, and who is going to wrestle them in and out of the committee boat?

If you want racing to be about getting to the marks first, you better do a little thinking about how your club members are supposed to see the marks. Check out the Plus 3 comparative video and see for your self.

Complete 3 buoy sets can be delivered to your door freight included for $398.

Not effected by wind the Plus 3 racing mark buoy system employs day glow orange mesh fabric like road crews use for safety vests. Wind passes right through the buoy. The buoys triangular viewing surface has the same profile from every angle. The viewing surface rest atop a 6-ft. mast to keep it well above the waves and curvature of the earth. The mast is caneliverd like a punching baloon toy to keep it upright. The counter weight and anchor rode tie-off at the water level allowing the mast to stay straight and upright in all seas and winds.

Because of the buoys lightweight and low free board a simple 8-lb. split mushroom anchor comes with the system to hold if firmly on station. The 100 ft. of 60 lb. working load ¼ in. Dacron line holds fast to 12 in. of chain at the anchor to avoid chafing. When assembled the Plus 3 buoys nestle inside each other to form one 6-ft. long stack. And with the viewing area sail removed and laid along side the mast, you end up with a 6 in. by 80 in bundle that can be stored upright in the committee boat closet, or flat storage locker. Don’t make racing about eyesight, make it about the sailor. Use the Plus 3 racing mark buoy system; keep your club members happy.
