boat racing seats

My question is on rowing positions.?

Today I was in the 8th seat for a race, I was at a learn to row camp.The race was kinda short so I didn’t row that much..I do not think i am the best rower in my boat, i’m just learning so I can honestly admit i’m not that gr8.I am a starboard and have been previously put in seat 3 (rigged boat)6, and lastly seat 4.What do you think? Did coach put me in 8 because we did not row too much?

You are a NOVICE. You do NOT need to be worried about that right now. Right now, you’re facing a very steep learning curve. Others around you who are more athletic might have a slight advantage over you. If they are taller, older, etc, they will be better than you. But you have time to grow! You have time to blossom. People are so negative in their novice year. Boat drama was always the most intense in novice year for me. Just take a deep breath. Learn to row is about learning to row. You’ve got the best position for that since you can look at what seven other people are doing right/wrong and apply it to yourself. Give your body time to adjust to the stroke. If you truly want to be better, weight lift and run more. If you don’t, you can keep wondering all you want. It comes down to strength. Don’t worry about seat placement. Just learn to row the boat and let the coach put you where he puts you. You can’t change his decision. You can only change yourself.

Stay focused! That’s all a novice should be doing.
