Can someone help me with a Relativity Problem?

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn can each row a boat at 5 ft/s in still water. Tom challenges Huck to a race in which Tom is to row the 2000 ft distance across the Mississippi River to a point exactly opposite their starting point and back again, while Huck rows to a point 2000 ft directly downstream and back up again. If the Mississippi flows at 3 ft/s, which boy wins and by how long?

Huck will go down steam at a velocity of 8ft/s, so it will take 250s.
then when Huck is back at a velocity of 2ft/s, it will take with him a bout 1000s, so a total of 1250s.

Tom will be going through a velocity of 5ft/s in magnitude, however, this velocity will have a component of 3ft/s to the right, so the effective velocity will be squareroot(25-9)=4ft/s
so it will take 500s to go
and to go back the same thing will happen at the opposite side, and the effective velocity will also be 4ft/s, so also 500s, with a total of 1000s, so Tom will win, by 250s.
