There’s an old joke about a guy who knew a flood was coming, so he asked God to save him. First a rescue squad came by, but he said, “No thanks, God will save me.” Then a boat came by, but he still refused their help. When the waters were too high, he climbed on his rooftop and a helicopter came, but he waved them off, preferring to wait for God. Finally he drowned and went to heaven where he asked God, “Why didn’t you save me?” God responded; “I sent you the rescue squad, the boat, and the helicopter. What more did you want?” Are we waiting for that white knight to come racing in to fight our battles? Listen up; God already sent us a Savior. His name is Jesus and He died for our sins, paid our debt, and conquered death. All for us. Now, we can sit on our proverbial rooftop or let Him lift us from what keeps us in the flood of guilt and shame. Choose salvation. It’s not cheap, but it is all paid for and free.
