What is the Boat towing limit on the interstate from Florida to NJ?
I am looking into purchasing a boat with a beam of 13′. I already have a trailer and found a F550 can take the weight of 15k but my concern is if the boat is to wide? I know others towing larger 40′ boats to FL for racing but this is a cruiser that I am buying and believe it is wider then a outerlimits type boat.
Correction- It is a 13.9′ beam so almost a 14′ hight.
Boats larger than 12′ are considered a “wide load” and you need a permit (or permits) to transport (tow) the boat. The tow truck must have a wide load sign, special lights etc. In my experience, the typical yacht of this size is also pretty high, when loaded on a “boat trailer” Professional haulers use a “Lowboy’ style trailer, and even custom built trailers for some boats. So, you might have issues there, (need to remove stuff) but bottom line, if you want to move your boat yourself, you can. You need to contact each State you need to drive through about their restrictions. Some places will only allow daylight movement, and the permits will give specific routes you must use. I’ve seen cases where, the boat got to it’s destination, only to find it couldn’t pass under an overpass, and had to travel miles away for launching and motoring by water to the marina.
