I’m the tallest person in my boat, how do I make carrying it easier?

I’m the tallest person in my boat which I will be racing in with 3 other rowers and a cox’n. We’ve all been working together for the past few days, and the regatta is on Saturday. I can never get the boat on my shoulder without it digging in and hurting me badly. I get yelled at by the cox’n all the time because I don’t have in on my shoulder, but it never stays. I like my tallness, but I hate being tallest person in my boat. I try hard to just suck it up and smile, but that never does anything. What can I do?

Try slouching slightly, it may not do a lot, but it will take off some of the pain. Or talk to your teammates about picking up a little extra weight so it doesn’t kill your elbow. Or perhaps find some sort of pad to put under your shirt on your elbow for when you carry the boat?
