How to clean the smell of shoes!?

I left my sports shoes at school over the weekend ( $220AUS pair of adidas Barricades) and during the weekend it rained. When I picked my shoes up they were fine but after a few days when I needed them for sports again they smelt FOUL. Its an acrid stench, i don’t know if it’s mildew or something else. I put disinfectant in the hottest tap water possible and washed them in that but still its smells the same… I need help, I only got the shoes in December and it’s to expensive to buy again.

I have raised three boys. Some remedies for odor I have used for tennis shoes are….washing with bleach. Soaking in baking soda and vinegar, then putting them out in the bright sun to air dry. The air drying in the sun is very effective for many materials. Do not leave out overnight though, the dew can cause mildew. Good Luck.
